In addition to what we have to say about Survivors, this case furtherly involves there being active perpetrators walking around the place. Some groups that are thoughtful toward Survivors are completely flummoxed by this other case, or unaware of some of the implications, such as that then personal security expertise is needed in addition to the likes of listening skills.
As regards Closeting (as currently being discussed here, people in these situations are often Closeted about who the abuser is, and in some case that forces Closeting about the abuse).
Domestic violence can be like that; saying one is afflicted by such is naming the person everybody sees every day next to oneself in Cafeteria as the perpetrator.
And naming the perpetrator can be tantamount to, at best, a full-time two-year legal battle with an individual one already knows to be an abuser, liar and threatener, and, at worst, their carrying out their horrific threats which often go well beyond the domestic abuse itself.
Thus in some cases of ongoing abuse, the peson subjected to this may well either be totally closeted or have a large multiplicity of layers of closeting. They might for instance pretend to be a Survivor of past abuse only to those few that they most trust, for seeking help for present mental wounds can still be considered of value separately from putting an end to an ongoing source of such.
